Deacon James King Turner II

Deacon James King Turner II was born on September 27, 1937 in Elmore Alabama to Mamie Gray and James King Turner. He went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery,Alabama. Homegoing services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Pastor William Walker officiating. The interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Gardens. James Turner, also known as JT and Deacon Turner, received his education in the Elmore County School System. He was a member of St. James Missionary Baptist Church #2, Montgomery, AL. He never shied away from hard work, long or early work hours. He was an awesome provider and a man of many talents. Working in the cotton fields, then as a bus driver, from a bus driver to the gas plant, from the gas plant to the railroad, from the railroad to a big-chain-store, and from there to carpentry, where he found his passion as a lifetime carpenter. A man of many talents and skillful trades. He was a barber, plumber, electrician and painter, just to name a few and if you didn’t know, a gifted praise singer as well. He was never without a tool in hand and song in his mouth. Two of his greatest achievements in life was accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and marrying Ora Mae (Wright) Turner. They were married for 62 years and produced a legacy of 10 children, nine boys and one girl and a host of grands and great grand children. James Turner was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a faithful man of God. He loved his family and friends dearly. He never met a stranger and looked out for the welfare of others. He loved and enjoyed a home cooked meal with fresh vegetables. To have known him was an honor and a privilege. He had a God given strength that went unmatched in his fight against cancer. His faith in God was steadfast to the very end, where on the early morning of Wednesday, January 24th he and God decided that as the Apostle Paul stated, “For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21. His loss leaves a void that could never be filled. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife, Ora Mae Turner, daughter Valerie E. Turner, son Jarvis Turner, parents; Mamie Gray and James K Turner, brothers; Jonathan and Sonny Gray, and grandparents who helped raise him; Timothy McCoo Sr and Johnnie Mae McCoo He leaves to cherish his memories; eight children; Frank James (Angie) Wright of Prattville Alabama, James King Turner III of Augusta Georgia, Joseph (Marshewell) Turner of Augusta Georgia, Wilfred E. Turner (Gwendolyn), Cad Turner, Quincy (Martina) Turner, Adrian L. Turner (Shayla Zeigler) and Harold D. Turner (Tonayah Brown) all of Elmore Alabama; thirty-six grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; god daughter Pamela Tucker, four brothers; Thomas Turner, Shelly Gray, Timothy (Melissa) Gray, Dave Earl (Julie) Gray, sister, Shirley Scott. He also leaves to mourn a host of nieces, nephews, auntie, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
