Captain Danny Ervin Hewlett, USAF Ret

With deep love and gratitude for a life of service, we announce the passing of Captain Danny E Hewlett, USAF (Ret.), who peacefully departed this life on July 22, 2026 at the age of 79. He is preceded in death by father Glen Hewlett, mother Mary Peters-Pursley, brother James Joseph Hewlett, and sister Karen Farnum. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 59 loving years, children Connie Smith (Brian) and David Hewlett (Courtney), grandchildren Brandon Hewlett (Dynasty), Gavin Hewlett, Jayden Hewlett, Megan Smith, Caleb Hewlett, great grandchildren RyleighAnne Hewlett, Braleigh Moore, and Kristopher Moore, and a host of nieces and nephews. Born on May 21, 1947 in St. Petersburg, Florida, Danny lived a life defined by compassion, selfless service, and unwavering faith. He dedicated his life to serving both his country and his community, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, kindness, and Christian devotion. After proudly answering the call to serve his country, he dedicated his career to the United States Air Force for 30 years, where he attained the rank of Captain and served honorably as a Physician Assistant.Throughout his military career, he provided exceptional medical care to service members and their families, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, patients, and friends alike. His professionalism, calm demeanor, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impact on everyone privileged to know him. As a devoted Physician Assistant, his passion for educating the next generation of healthcare professionals grew. For seven years, he served as a dedicated professor, inspiring and mentoring countless students through his knowledge, patience, and passion for education. He believed in the value of lifelong learning and took great pride in helping others reach their full potential. His influence extended far beyond the classroom, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of his students and colleagues alike. While his military career was a significant chapter of his life, his greatest calling was serving the Lord. A devoted Christian, Danny faithfully shared the love of Christ wherever he went. During his time at Keesler Air Force Base, he served as a Youth Minister investing his time, wisdom, and heart into the lives of young people. He believed every child deserved to know God’s love and encouraged countless youth to walk faithfully in Christ through his mentorship and example. Those who knew him remember a man of quiet strength, humble character, and unwavering faith. He approached every challenge with prayer, every opportunity with gratitude, and every person with respect and compassion. Whether wearing the uniform of his country or opening God’s Word before a group of young believers, Danny faithfully answered the call to serve. His love for his family was immeasurable, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, honor, service and unconditional love that will continue to inspire generations. Captain Danny E. Hewlett's legacy of service, compassion, and patriotism will live on in the countless lives he touched. His dedication to his country, his patients, and his family will never be forgotten. His life reflected the words of scripture: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” (Matthew 25:23) His steadfast faith assures us that this is not goodbye, but until we meet again. Danny’s favorite bible verse, 3 John 2 reads “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Pastor Trevor Perry officiating.
