Mr. William "Bill" Raymond Stewart Sr.

William (Bill) Raymond Stewart, 98 of Deatsville, Alabama passed away on March 1st, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was born January 1st, 1927, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of William (Bill) Andrew Stewart and Esther Davis Stewart. Bill joined the Army on November 7th, 1945, and served as a staff sergeant in the European Theater of Operations until his honorable discharge on May 12th, 1947. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Metal. As a young man, Bill was active in the West End Boys Club in Montgomery, Alabama, teaching woodworking and shop under the direction of his Father who was the club’s director. Bill began his 50 year career in insurance at the age of 25 when he went to work at Alabama Inspection and Rating Bureau, which in 1971 joined with other State Rating Bureaus to form Insurance Services Office (ISO). Shortly after that, Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association (AIUA) was formed in co-operation with the Alabama Department of Insurance and Bill was named as Manager of the Company. AIUA moved from Montgomery to Foley Alabama and Bill continued his career there until his retirement in 2002 at the age of 75. Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his beloved wife, Jackie H Stewart and his children, William R Stewart, Jr., Jan Wright, Tod Stewart (Brett Swartz) and Jeanne Stoker along with his stepchildren, Shari Bryan, Barry Berdeaux and David Berdeaux (Jason Grace). He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Chris Wright (Courtney), Adam Wright (Sara), Stephanie Wright, Will Stoker (Adrienne), Caroline Stoker, Graham Stoker (Sam) and step-grandchildren, Charles Bryan, Benjiman Bryan (Melissa), Matthew Berdeaux, Marcus Berdeaux, and Mason Berdeaux. Great-Grandchildren, Jake Wright, Mary Mason Wright, Emma Wright, Dalton Wright, Grace Culver, Amelia Wright and Adleigh Wright, Maeve Bryan and Miles Bryan. Brother Jerry Stewart (Betty Jean) and sisters Donna Forman and Pam Bolinger (Walt) and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 44 years and the mother of his children, Nell Brown Stewart; his son Ted Stewart; and his stepdaughter, Pat Strowd, along with his parents and his brother, Danny Stewart. Visitation will be held at the chapel of Brookside Memorial Gardens on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, from 1:00–2:00 PM followed by funeral services at 2:00 PM. Interment will be in Brookside Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Brookside Funeral Home, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens of Millbrook, AL directing.
