Mr. Warren "Too Tall" Gilder

Mr. Warren “Too Tall” Gilder was born on August 19, 1957, in Elmore, Alabama, to the late Andrew Gilder Jr. and Mattie Mae Gilder. He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence brought joy, laughter, and light everywhere he went. Warren rededicated his life to Christ when he united with Cross Road Missionary Baptist Church in Verbena, Alabama. With his faith renewed and his heart anchored in God, he peacefully departed this life on April 22, 2026. Warren attended Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, Alabama. Throughout his life, he worked faithfully and diligently with several employers, including Buck Handle Lumber Yard and Montgomery & Ratcliffe Gravel Pit. He was also proudly self‑employed—a master craftsman who could pour cement with a skill and precision that made his work unmistakable. If Warren touched it, you knew it was done right. Warren was a loyal friend to many and truly the life of every gathering. His smile could brighten the darkest room, and his laughter—full, warm, and contagious—had a way of lifting spirits instantly. His dance moves were unforgettable, his generosity unmatched, and his heart always open. Warren loved good food, especially the food you tried to hide from him. He would find it every time and then fuss at you for asking about it. One of his favorite sayings, delivered with that signature grin, was: “That’s a low-down dirty man right there.” He will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, his devotion to family, and the love he gave so freely. Warren lived big, loved big, and left a legacy of joy that will continue to echo through the lives he touched. He leaves to cherish his memory five children: Warren Gilder Jr. of New Mexico, Troy Brown (Jennifer) of Holtville, AL, Latoya Brown (Frank Marshal) of Prattville, AL, Lashonda Calhoun (Bryan) of Wetumpka, AL, and Maurice Deon Monroe; one sister, Bettie Ann Alexander of Prattville, AL; five brothers: Darrell Gilder (Loretta) of Coosada, AL, Andrew Gilder (Eddie Mae) of Montgomery, AL, Daniel Gilder (Carolyn) of Montgomery, AL, Archer L. Gilder of Millbrook, AL, and John Gilder (Eva) of Deatsville, AL. He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and cherished friends who loved him deeply. Among them, one devoted niece, Teresa Grear of Coosada, AL, held a special place in his heart. Warren’s legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A Homegoing Celebration will be held on May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home in Millbrook, AL, with Rev. Andrew Gilder officiating.
