Mr. Rush Chancey

Mr. Rush Chancey of North Braddock, PA was born on June 11, 1926, in Millbrook, AL. He was the son of Bailey and Jennie (Thomas) Chancey. Rush received Christ at an early age. After graduating from Sandtown High School, Rush enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In 1951, he moved to Braddock, PA to work at U.S. Steel Edgar Thompson Works. Rush retired from U.S. Steel in 1991 after working there for 40 years. He was never one to sit still and found retirement boring, so he found employment with the Swissvale Library and the Woodland Hills School District. Rush finally decided to sit back and relax and retired again in 2000. Rush was a member of The Braddock Community Male Choir, and his vocal abilities were frequently compared to those of Sam Cooke. He was a loyal, longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church in Braddock, PA. When Bethel Baptist Church merged with another local church, Rush continued his loyalty and became a member of the newly formed Unity Baptist Church in Braddock, PA. Rush was always impeccably dressed when he went out. He possessed a distinct sense of style. He was a family person and loved to travel to visit his family. Rush was his liveliest when he was back home in Alabama visiting his siblings, nieces, and nephews. Rush transitioned to be with his heavenly father on January 3, 2026. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Wilson) Chancey, his parents Bailey and Jennie Chancey, his son Robert Wilson Sr, his bothers (John Ellis Jackson, Charlie Thomas, Castleberry Reaves and Sylvester Chancey) and his sisters (Mattie L. Reaves, Ruby Kate Bates, Hattie Cook, Lillie Pearl Moore and Louise Moore). The memories of his 99 Years of Life will be celebrated and cherished by his 3 children - Clifford Chancey of Orlando, FL, Lillie Mae Chancey of Kennesaw, GA and Michael (Chalise) Chancey of Braddock, PA; his Grandchildren – Stephenson Chancey of Toledo, OH, Ebony (Andre) McAlister of Atlanta, GA, Darren Chancey of London England, Dion Chancey and Cheree Chancey of Saginaw, MI, Anthony (Connie) Chancey of Dallas, TX, Patrick (Jasmine) Menifee Sr of East Pittsburgh, PA, Robert (Lavera) Wilson Jr of Richmond, VA, William Ferguson of Braddock, PA, Michael Chancey of Los Angeles, CA and Melodie Chancey of Braddock, PA; his Great Granddaughter Moriyah “Myra” Chancey and numerous other Great Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
