Mrs. Mamie Darnell McKithen

On December 11,1952 a beautiful soul was born. MAMIE DARNELL KIDD Mc KITHEN was born in Lower Peachtree, Alabama, to the late Ira James Kidd and the late Sarah Louise Kidd Packer. She was the second oldest of six children, raised by her mother, Sarah. Mamie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church in Lower Peachtree, Alabama, where she served as a member of the youth department, church choir, and Sunday school. She later joined Lake Elam Missionary Baptist Church in Millbrook, Alabama, where she faithfully served in the church choir, choir treasurer for many years, missionary department, deaconess, Sunday school teacher, and lastly, as the church youth director, where she served until she retired. Two of her favorite annual events that she directed was Vacation Bible school and The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. It was her pride and joy to handle these events every year and she enjoyed being able to serve. Mamie united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Alvin C. McKithen, Sr., on August 6th, 1976. To this union was born two children: Meggan Danielle Williams and Alvin C. McKithen, Jr. After graduating from Monroe Senior High School. Mamie attended Alabama State University, where she received her B.S. Degree and Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education. She began her teaching career in Monroeville, Alabama and later teaching second grade at Holtville Elementary School for 19 years and ending her teaching career at Robinson Springs Elementary School in Millbrook, Alabama where she was nominated as "Teacher of the Year" before retiring in 2004. Mamie taught school for nearly 30 years. She loved her students and they loved her as well. She took pride in her work and most of all her students. Anyone who met Mamie would instantly fall in love with her. She was such a sweet and kind person, that everyone loved and admired. She was the epitome of a great wife, mother, sister, teacher, and friend. On Tuesday morning before day, January 25, 2022, Mamie accepted the call from Glory and entered into eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ora James Kidd. Mamie will forever be loved and her precious memories cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Alvin C. McKithen, Sr., her two children: Meggan Danielle (Corneilus) Williams and Alvin C. McKithen, Jr.; one brother, Jessie James Kidd; Three sisters: Dorothy M. (Bobby) Wright, Deborah A. (Wayne) Townsend, and Tammy (Darryl) Finch; one uncle, William (Louise) Calhoun, Cleveland, OH; Four grandchildren, Tarajee, Zakara, Amen Ra Williams, and Ashton Mckithen; two step-grandchildren: Aerial Robinson and Gabe Livingston; devoted nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Jackson officiating with interment to follow at Brookside Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 30, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Masks are required to be worn in the funeral home during all services.
