Mr. Harold Alan Kouns

In the wake of Harold "Hak" Kouns' passing on April 27, 2024, we find solace in remembering a life lived with unwavering dedication, boundless love, and a touch of humor that could light up any room. Retiring from military service as a Major in 2005 after three decades of service to the United States Air Force, his proudest moments included his educational tenure as Associate Professor of Aerospace Studies at the University of Florida between 1996-1999, and his acceptance of the Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service Medal in 2018, awarded in recognition of the important contributions and sacrifices made throughout his career. Hak's commitment to the safety and autonomy of his countrymen and women left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Hak's interests extended far beyond his military career, always embracing a love for knowledge and stories. He exultantly traveled the world and encouraged others to explore. With a passion for science fiction and fantasy, Hak shared many moments with anyone willing to sit with him and watch movies for hours. His role as a mentor to young minds and a loving grandfather to his adored grandchildren showcased his boundless generosity and kindness. Through his ability to forge close friendships across continents, Hak's legacy of unity and shared stories continues to resonate, reminding us of the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many. Ultimately, Hak's true joy stemmed from the love he shared with his cherished family, friends, and pets. He was a devoted Husband (aka “Babylein”) to Marietta Kouns, a beloved Dad (alias “PITA”) to Amber Aftonomos (Theo), Krista Kouns, Alan Kouns, Eddie Fulton, and Stefanie Fulton, and a proud Grandpa (“Opa”) to Nicholas, Alexis, Zoe, Luna, Yasmin, Sara, Nathaniel, Carmen, and Alexander. While he was known as a gregarious man, his actions spoke even louder than words, revealing the depth of his love and admiration for his family in every gesture and moment shared. In laughter and tears, we celebrate the extraordinary journey of Harold "Hak" Kouns, forever grateful for the love and laughter he brought to our lives. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 11AM from the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Military Honors and burial at Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Al. Brookside Funeral Home, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens of Millbrook, AL directing.
