Mr. Garry Hal Woodward

Garry Hal Woodward, at the age of 78, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 8:31pm. Garry was born July 24, 1947, in Duval County, Texas to the late Jack Edward Woodward and Alice Elaine Hall Woodward. He is survived by his wife Carla Bryant Woodward, whom he spent over 25 wonderful years with, and officially married on April 14, 2019. He is preceded in death by his brother Jay Edward Woodward, sister Jackie Woodward Hardin, and half-brother Doug Nograth. He is survived by his sister Adelma (Midge) DeHart, and half-brother Donald Wauschek. Garry was a very blessed father who loved his children deeply. He is survived by daughter Sherry Lee Woodward Hernandez, and son Jesse Edward Woodward. He also had the joy of being a father to 3 stepchildren, daughter Heather Bolton, daughter Samantha Woodward, and son Mark Ware, whom he loved as his very own. He is also survived by daughter and son in laws, as well as multiple grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Garry proudly served our country from 1964-1972 where he was a SR in the United States Navy. He served 3 tours including serving in the Vietnam War. Garry began as an Airedale working in the aviation division and later transitioned to a Sea Bee serving in the construction force. He was honorably discharged in 1972 after receiving several metals of honor and ending up contracting Agent Orange that caused him to develop throat cancer. After he was honorably discharged, he worked in the construction industry, running heavy machinery and painting for a living. With only a 9th grade education, he had to teach himself to read and write, while he was needed to work daily on the homestead in Alaska. Garry lived a full life. He lived in multiple states including Texas, California, Alaska, and Alabama. Garry, also referred to as Pops and sometimes George, was one of the most loving, giving, genuine men in the entire world. He had a heart of gold. He was a great listener, full of wisdom, very slow to anger, and was the only man that his wife Carla could find that could put up with her crap (Ha). First and foremost, Garry loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, as he often called him “The Big Guy,’” and shared his faith with everyone he had the chance to. He lived with purpose. He grew up loving to play the guitar and shoot pool. He loved going on cruises, cooking/smoking on his grill, and baking. He loved listening to country music, especially Shania Twain and Walon Jennings. Garry was a gadget collector of many things! He loved all things woodworking and would often be found out in his shop tinkering on one of his projects. He was an avid coffee drinker, who loved wrapping up in his white robe every single day. Cartoons, old western movies such as Gun Smoke, and Kung Fu movies were some of his favorite things to watch. He especially took pride in cutting his grass and wanting his yard to look very well-manicured. He loved riding his motorcycle and just being outdoors. He was a simple man who just loved to chill and relax in his shorts of many colors, his tank tops and of course his flip flops. To know him was to absolutely love him! We celebrate his life and the legacy he leaves behind! He will be greatly missed, but we know one day we will see him again!
