Mrs. Barbara Ann Hill Simmons

Barbara Hill Simmons, age 83, a resident of Deatsville, AL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel of Brookside Funeral Home with Rev. Bubba Lambert officiating. The interment will follow at Brookside Memorial Gardens. Barbara Ann Hill was born on March 31, 1942, at home with the assistance of a midwife in Blakely, GA. She was the daughter of Winston and Betty (Holly) Hill. Barbara grew up in Blakely and attended Jackin Elementary School. She later moved to Demopolis, AL, where she graduated from Demopolis High School in 1960.Following graduation, Barbara began her long career at BellSouth Telephone Company, where she had started working during her junior year of high school. She loved her work and proudly dedicated over 40 years to the company before retiring. Barbara will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren which all called her “Nana”, and many friends. She is survived by her son, Steve (Shannon) Hancock, and their three children: Blake Hancock of Childersburg, AL; and Alivia Hancock and Collin Hancock of Thompson, ND. She is also survived by her daughter, Stefanie Lawrence, and her two children: Lindsey Silas of Deatsville, AL, and Landon (Tori) Lawrence of Selma, AL. Her grandsons Taylor Wood (Kaitlyn) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL, and Tyser Wood of Auburn, AL. Her great-grandchildren include Brodie Hancock, Analeigh Silas, Brixton Wood, Bristol Wood, and Chase Lawrence. Barbara is also survived by her brothers, Jimmy (Cheryl) Hill and Burl (Delane) Hill; her sister, Geri (Gerald) Hurt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Simmons; her parents, Winston and Betty Hill; her son Donnie Wood; her brothers, Jerome Hill, Gerald Hill, and Earl Hill; and her sisters, Jeanette Summerford and Martha Ann Evans. Barbara lived a life full of love and devotion to her family. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Brookside Funeral Home, Crematorium & Memorial Gardens of Millbrook, AL directing.
